MUSIC & MEMORY® Program
About MUSIC & MEMORY®
Havenwood is certified to offer the MUSIC & MEMORY program for residents suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Rooted in neuroscience research, this program helps people who struggle with cognitive and physical challenges find renewed meaning and connection in their lives through a personalized playlist.
How it works
Music increases the quality of life for these residents by slowing memory loss, increasing recognition and recollection, reducing stress and frustration, and bringing joy to seniors and their caretakers. Where medications fail, music succeeds. Our MUSIC & MEMORY specialists at Havenwood set up personalized playlists for memory care residents that tap into deep memories not lost to Alzheimer’s or dementia. With the familiar sounds come familiar images, scents, and faces that help the listener forge stronger connections to both the past and the present.
Research shows that across its network of care organizations, MUSIC & MEMORY delivers results:
- Participants are happier and more social.
- Relationships among staff, participants, and family deepen.
- Everyone benefits from a calmer, more supportive social environment.
- Staff regain valuable time previously lost to behavior management issues.
- Some individuals can reduce reliance on anti-psychotic medications.
